Gardens & Koi Pond
Life began in a garden…
In the gardens, our residents experience a lush, tropical setting, complete with waterfalls, a koi pond and bird feeders. The residents have the opportunity to enjoy relaxing, natural activities like feeding the koi and watching the birds. We keep a number of bird watching books around on the tables, so that when the migrating birds come through during the different seasons, our residents can identify which types of birds are landing on the feeders. These types of outdoor activities help keep the residents in touch with their natural surroundings. Enjoying the tranquil ambiance of the gardens is more soothing and satisfying than a game of bingo in a larger institution. It’s always wonderful to see the joy on the faces of the residents as they spend time in the gardens.
Our Koi and Their Therapeutic Effect
The koi have also become part of the family at Magnolia. Many residents, in the transition into assisted living, have had to leave their pets behind. As a result, they come to enjoy feeding the fish, which become to them like replacement pets.
